Handcrafted in the UK
Creators of the world’s first Maiyan Suite — handcrafted ceremony furniture made to bring comfort, presence and unforgettable style to the morning before the wedding.
Why we started
The South Asian wedding kept evolving.
Bigger stages. Better film. Every hour art-directed.
And the Maiyan — the morning that starts it all —
was still being held on a borrowed stool.
So we made the thing that did not exist: a complete suite designed for the Maiyan alone. Not repurposed event furniture. Not a chair with a cloth thrown over it. A full ceremony setting, built around the ritual and the people taking part in it.

A complete Amaya setting, as delivered
The world’s first Maiyan Suite
The Maiyan — known in different families as the Vatna, the Haldi or the Pithi — brings everyone together to press turmeric paste onto the bride or groom in the days before the wedding. It is warm, loud, hands-on and photographed more than almost anything else in the week.
Everything else in a South Asian wedding has a piece of furniture designed for it. Until Amaya Chairs, this one did not. So we designed ceremonial seating for the Maiyan itself — a head chair with real support, side chairs so nobody has to kneel, and every ceremony piece made to match.

The anatomy of a suite
A Maiyan Suite is not a chair. It is a complete setting — seating for the person at the centre, seating for everyone taking part, and every ceremony piece within reach.

Main Chair
01 — The centrepiece
A handcrafted chair for the bride or groom-to-be. It elevates the traditional short peeri into a larger, more supportive seat, designed to stay comfortable for the length of the ceremony.
02 — For everyone else
Two purpose-built benches for the family and friends applying the Maiyan paste, so nobody spends the ceremony kneeling on the floor beside the main chair.
03 — Within reach
A dedicated table that keeps the Sagan tray exactly where it needs to be — beside the suite, at the right height, for the whole ceremony.
04 — The ritual
The matching tray, with two bowls, one cup, one oil bottle and Ganna, so everything the ceremony calls for arrives together and matches the suite.
05 — The canopy
Four matching sticks, made to make holding the chunni over the bride or groom easier and more comfortable throughout.
Yours afterwards
Four things stay with the family when the furniture is collected — the pieces that end up in a photograph on a wall rather than back in the van.
Personalised boards
Boards can be printed with a name, a date, initials or a line in Punjabi, ready for the handprints that get pressed onto it during the ceremony. Ask when you inquire.
Amaya add-ons
From matching backdrops to personalised boards and handprint keepsakes, Amaya Chairs can bring more of the celebration together around the suite you choose.

A setting that belongs with the suite.
Ask about backdrop options designed to complement your chosen suite and the way the rest of the event is being styled.

The part of the morning you keep.
Personalised keepsakes carrying the handprints from the ceremony, so what happens on the morning stays with the family afterwards.
Mention them when you inquire and we will include them in your quote.
Real celebrations

“We were so happy with our booking. The chairs and all the maiyan details were gorgeous and having everything delivered, styled and collected took so much stress away from us. Thank you Sunny and Raj for making our day so special.”
Handcrafted in the UK
Every Amaya Chairs suite is built at our own workshop in the UK — cut, shaped, finished and upholstered here, then checked as a complete set before it goes anywhere.
Frames are made from scratch for each suite, not bought in and re-covered.
Seats, bolsters and backs are worked in the fabric chosen for that design.
Chairs, tray table, Sagan tray and ceremony pieces are matched before delivery.
Why Amaya
We are a husband-and-wife team making one thing properly, for most of the UK.
01
Not repurposed event furniture with a cover thrown over it. Every dimension exists because of what happens during this ceremony.
02
Each suite is made at Amaya Chairs HQ — frames cut and shaped here, upholstery worked here, the whole set checked here.
03
Seating, tray table, Sagan tray, chunni sticks, Phatti, Rangoli board and colours — designed together so nothing looks borrowed.
04
A supportive main chair for the bride or groom-to-be, and proper side seating so family are not kneeling on the floor.
05
Free within 30 miles, then 50p per mile beyond that. Send your postcode and we will confirm.
06
Custom designs can be considered, depending on the design itself, the timescales and what we can produce for your date.
